"Mashramani "

I'm sure many are acquainted with Carnival which is a great festival held in Brazil, Trinidad and some other countries. Here in Guyana we have something similar Called   Mashramani.

Mashramani  also abbreviated to "Mash", is an annual festival which  celebrates Guyana  becoming a Republic in 1970. This  festival is  held on February 23 .  Guyanese Republic Day  includes a  parade, music, games and cooking and is intended to commemorate the "Birth of the Republic".

The word "Mashramani" is derived from an Amerindian  language and in translation means "the celebration of a job well done". It is probably the most colourful of all the country's festivals. There are spectacular costume competitions, float parades, masquerade bands, and dancing in the streets etc. There tons of  pre Mashramani activities that are mad fun, example. parties, concerts, Competitions etc.

This Guyana will be Celebrating its 43rd Republican Anniversary under the theme " Reflecting creativity, Embracing Diversity"
Its the 18th of February, which means  Mashramani is in a few days.

As a part of Pre Mash activities they are a number of School  competitions such as Dance, Poetry, Steel pan , Calypso and Costume etc.

                                                   Children's Dance Competition

                                                      Children's Steel Pan Competition

                                                 Children's Poetry Competition

                                           Children's Float and Costume parade

Adults are totally not forgotten, we have our chance at the festive fun , in such competition too.

The Carib Soca monarch is a singing competition mainly for artist mainly in the gernre of "SOCA" as the name suggests. Each year a new King or Queen of Soca is crowned.

On the 16th February 2013, The finals of the Carib soca monarch was held where a new winner was crowned, Mr. Jumo Primo was once again given the title with his awesome performance .Congrats to him :).
